AMY’S STORY

Amy has been teaching people to play the piano for over 30 years.
With huge personal success as a pianist & composer for film & TV, Amy has always known that music was her vocation.
Helping others to be able to read and play music was the obvious path and has proved to be a hugely rewarding enterprise.

’CONTRACT OF TUITION’

Please review our Contract of Tuition over the next few pages for all the terms and conditions of our online piano lessons. 

Once we have your signed Student Lesson Policy Agreement we will proceed with booking your first lesson.

You can also call or text Amy on 07740 167703. Amy will endeavour to respond to all emails and return any missed phone calls within 48 hours.

TUITION & PAYMENT

After completing our ‘5 Week Introduction to Online Piano’ course, all tuition is paid for a month in advance, with invoices being emailed on the 21st of each month for payment by the 28th.
Payment by standing order upon agreement of this contract is requested.

Current charges:
30min lesson @ £120 per month
45min lesson @ £180 per month
60min lesson @ £240 per month

You pay a monthly flat rate regardless of whether there are 4 or 5 weeks in the month.
Lesson charges increase every April and are advised a month prior of any change.

Lessons are taught 48wks of the year, inc Bank Holidays & inset days. Amy schedules a 3 week break from lessons during the Summer & 1 week at Christmas. Your monthly tuition fee is calculated by dividing the 48wk annual fee across 12 equal monthly payments.

Your tuition fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable. Refunds will not be given for change of mind or missed sessions.

Late payment fee of £10 is charged to your following month’s invoice should your payment be more than 48hrs late.

ATTENDANCE

Your lesson programme will consist of a weekly class on the same day & time to ensure it becomes part of your weekly schedule. You will be booked into these sessions after you complete our ‘5 Week Introduction’ Course and you will receive weekly email & SMS reminders 24hrs prior via our booking system.

Your weekly lesson will be scheduled initially on Zoom and the invite emailed to you. Should Amy feel your internet connection would suit a different meeting platform such as Teams or Google Meet, a new lesson invite will be sent. Please keep this safe for future lessons.

On your lesson day, please do your best to log into your lesson on time with your books ready, and please also have available a notebook and pencil. Good lighting is also imperative, and we would always ask that your instrument is situated in a public room of your home (not a bedroom).

MISSED LESSONS

The studio does not provide any catch-up lessons for any sessions that coincide with holidays or appointments that you may have booked; missed lessons are forfeited.

In an emergency - if a lesson is cancelled within 24hrs - Amy will try her best to provide an alternative lesson time. Please note; this is NOT guaranteed.

If Amy needs to cancel a lesson, she will either discuss with you an alternative date/time to reschedule, or a lesson credit will be added to your next month’s invoice.

‘BREAK’ CLAUSE

Should you need to take time away from lessons for whatever reason (to move house, extended travelling, etc) but fully intend to return, we offer a ‘break’ clause.

We continue to charge 50% of your normal monthly rate to reserve your time slot in the schedule. Please discuss your situation with Amy so that she can agree on the best option for you.

DISCONTINUATION OF LESSONS

Any student who decides that learning the piano isn’t for them may give the studio a 30 day notice period. However, we would ask that a minimum period of 3 months learning is worked through first to ensure this decision is sound and definite.

All new enterprises come with a degree of intimidation and discouragement initially; things worth doing are never easy! But Amy wants to be sure that you’ve given playing the piano a sensible amount of time before you decide to quit.

Your notice to discontinue must be made in writing to abalcomb@me.com and lessons are expected to continue throughout unless the student specifically requests an immediate end to their attendance.

It should also be noted that Amy reserves the right to cease tuition with any student who consistently lacks the necessary commitment and attitude towards learning.

MEDIA RELEASE CONSENT

Lessons may be video or audio recorded for a number of reasons including but not limited to quality control & performance revision, tracking of student progress, creating lesson content, and the creation of promotional material for marketing purposes. 

You give consent for Amy Balcomb Music to use photographic & video recordings in our digital lessons including Zoom, Teams & Google Meet, and give permission for these photos and videos to be used by Amy Balcomb Music for administrative, educational & promotional use.

By joining Amy Balcomb Music, you acknowledge that audio and video recordings may be occurring at any time and give your permission to be recorded. 

You may revoke this authorisation at any time by contacting us directly via email. 

CHANGES TO CONTRACT OF TUITION

Amy Balcomb Music reserves the right to make changes and revisions to the Contract of Tuition at any time. Changes take effect 30 days after an updated Contract has been submitted to the student body via email. It is the student and parent/guardians' responsibility to keep up to date with the Contract of Tuition.
